Rome, the eternal city, a living museum where ancient history blends seamlessly with modern life. Stepping onto its cobbled streets feels like stepping into a time machine, where each corner tells a story spanning millennia. In just 24 hours, you can experience the essence of Rome, from its iconic landmarks to its vibrant culture and of course culinary delights.
Arrive early in the morning and drop your bags at Rome’s latest Grand dame – the Hotel de la Ville, A Rocco Forte Hotel (* see below for special perks when booking through us)
Once you’ve checked in we suggest starting your day with a visit to the Colosseum. This ancient amphitheatre, once the stage for gladiatorial contests and grand spectacles, stands as a symbol of Rome’s grandeur and resilience. Explore its corridors and imagine the roar of the crowd as battles unfolded beneath the blazing sun.
Next, wander* through the Roman Forum, the heart of ancient Rome’s political and social life. Amidst the ruins of temples, basilicas, and arches, you’ll glimpse fragments of a civilisation that shaped the Western world. Don’t miss the majestic Arch of Constantine, a triumphal arch celebrating the emperor’s victory.
* We can also help arrange hiring a vespa which is a great experience when in Rome…
After a morning of exploration, it’s time for a taste of La Dolce Vita; indulge in a leisurely Italian lunch at a trattoria* tucked away in a picturesque alley. Savour classic dishes like pasta carbonara or cacio e pepe, paired with a glass of local wine.

Post-lunch, stroll to the Pantheon, via a gelateria (or two). Marvel at its impressive architecture, the largest unreinforced concrete dome in the world, and admire the oculus, a circular opening that floods the interior with natural light.
Continue your journey through time with a visit to the Vatican City*, the smallest independent state in the world and home to some of humanity’s greatest artistic treasures. Explore the Vatican Museums, where masterpieces by Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo da Vinci await. Of course, no visit is complete without stepping into the Sistine Chapel to gaze upon Michelangelo’s breathtaking ceiling frescoes.
As the afternoon wanes, make your way to Piazza Navona, a lively square adorned with elegant fountains and Baroque palaces. Take a moment to admire Bernini’s Fountain of the Four Rivers before indulging in a refreshing aperitivo.
*Top tip: try and time your visit to the Vatican city on a Sunday – there is simply nothing like it.
From one aperitivo to another we suggest heading back to the rooftop of the Hotel de la Ville which aside from being achingly cool has stunning views over the city.
As dusk descends, cross the Tiber River to Trastevere, a charming neighbourhood known for its narrow streets, ivy-clad buildings, and vibrant nightlife. Wander through its labyrinthine alleys, where every corner reveals hidden gems and inviting trattorias.
For dinner, dine al fresco at a local osteria, where the aroma of freshly baked pizza mingles with the sound of local Romans enjoying their evenings . Tuck in to authentic Roman dishes like supplì (rice croquettes) and saltimbocca alla Romana (veal with prosciutto and sage), accompanied by a carafe of house wine.
After dinner, take a stroll along the riverbank and pause at Ponte Sant’Angelo to admire the illuminated Castel Sant’Angelo, a towering fortress steeped in history.
Rise early the next morning to burn off last night’s Italian indulgence with a walk through the Borghese gardens and climbing the Spanish steps which are a stone’s throw from the hotel. Before heading back to enjoy, hands down, the best breakfast in Rome (you’ve earned it).
And then it’s until next time, arrivederci, Roma.
There are of course many things to see and do in and around Rome and we are happy to tailor make any itinerary.
